One comment on “Poverty resources for libraries

  1. When I think about poverty and libraries, I also think that librarians can play a role in providing accurate and necessary information about poverty to *everyone*. So this is not just about serving poor people directly, which is very important, but it’s also about making sure that those who are not poor have information, not assumptions, about what it means to be poor. And not just deal with the condition and consequences of poverty, but also provide information about its causes, and solutions for its elimination. I think we can be more active information providers on this issue, rather than passively waiting to be asked. Just as with the Iraq War, there is a lot of misinformatin about poverty out there, that many in power are promulgating. We can, we need to tie this issue to our professional information literacy movement.
